How we started

Matthew Carroll

Ever since I can remember, I have had fishing in my blood… An addiction that only intensifies with time. Those who know me can attest, I eat, sleep, and breath fish.

When I was young, largemouth bass was my drug of choice. I slowly learned different techniques and studied everything I could possibly learn from these fish. How they move during the year, how they feed in different bodies of water, how they feed on different forage. I would find a body of water known to have large bass and fish that one body of water all year. Learning everything I could on how to consistently catch larger and larger fish. Out of all the different techniques, my favorite by far was fishing BIG swimbaits. The biggest I could get my hands on. And there was something really special about these baits, the DRAWING power is unlike any other bait. Specifically the big glide baits, they would draw large fish and get frequent follows allowing me to hone-in on big fish locations and figure out a new body of water way better. And they flat out caught giant bass…

Fast forward to now, although I still do some freshwater fishing from time-to-time (especially during the winter months), I am now a salt junkie. I am addicted to the biggest and baddest fish I can get on the end of my line. I started fishing the salt for about 7-8 years now but in the last 3 years or so I have become fully obsessed. Applying all of my freshwater bass fishing skills allowed me to better transition into a successful saltwater angler. Pushing my 16ft skiff to the limits chasing bass, blues, bonito, and false albacore on plugs and the fly. This past year or so I have become obsessed with throwing BIG glides for holdover striped bass. I dabbled in this 2 years ago, catching a few low to mid 30 inch fish. But this year I was so dialed in I needed more…

As soon as April hit and these bass were aggressively feeding on large herring, I needed something different. So I decided to build one of my own! The goal was simple: make it as larger than 10 inches and make it able to be fished FAST. So I did just that. The first bait I made on a whim, the master was made from clay. I messed around with weighting and even though it wasn’t perfect, it had an insane action and I could rip it as fast as I possibly could without it blowing out. First trip out, I had a fat 38 inch holdover smoke this thing at the SURFACE in 35-40 ft of water an inch away from the kayak (fish pictured to the right). from this moment on I was hooked, all I could think about was how I could improve my next bait.

I met Matt in preschool. We grew up in the same area and have been close pretty much our whole lives. From messing around as kids to chasing big fish as adults, we’ve always shared a love for fishing and the outdoors.

While Matt got serious about bass fishing early on, I was always around and learning alongside him. Over the years, fishing with him has taught me a lot about the water, the fish, the patterns, and the grind it takes to find and land those bigger bites. When he started getting into throwing big glide baits, I quickly caught the bug myself. There’s something addicting about watching a huge bait glide just under the surface and knowing a monster could be following right behind it.

After high school, I went to college in Boston and studied computer engineering. That’s where I got into 3D design, and those skills eventually found their way into my fishing. I started looking at baits not just as tools, but as something I could design and improve myself.

After school, I went into business with my dad. I now own and operate a sign company that’s a sister business to his. That hands-on work, combined with my tech background, gives me a creative edge when it comes to designing and dialing in baits and gear.

I’ve been fishing for years now and have learned a lot about the local waters and species. I mostly fish with Matt whenever he's available, and over time that turned into a shared obsession with big glide baits. The excitement of testing new baits, dialing in a presentation, and getting explosive eats never gets old.

I’m always chasing the next improvement whether it’s in a bait design, a casting angle, or a deeper understanding of the fish I’m targeting. And I’m just getting started.

About us

Joey and I have been friends ever since I can remember. We live close to each other and went to all the same schools growing up. I few weeks prior to me making that first glide bait, Joey mentioned making lures together. Fast forward a few weeks and we decided to turn this hobby into something real. With Joey’s business and engineering skills and my passion for fishing, the sky is the limit. Follow along as we chase our dreams and make some sick lures!
